2 killed, 2 injured in deadly morning shootings, crash in Vallejo: police

VALLEJO, Calif. (KGO) -- Vallejo police are searching for suspects after two men were shot in separate locations Tuesday morning, leaving one dead and another critically injured.

The first shooting was reported at 8:03 a.m. in the area of Castlewood Drive and Springs Road, according to a statement from the Vallejo Police Department. An adult man was shot and taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Twenty minutes later, at 8:23 a.m., another man was shot at least once in the 200 block of Marin Street. He later died at the hospital.

Blood on the sidewalk marked the scene on Marin Street, where neighbors said they heard two gunshots before finding the victim critically injured.

Vallejo resident Angela Sullivan said she and a friend heard two gunshots and looked outside.

"I ran out the door, and I came to the gate, and I began to scream, 'Baby, say something, move. Are you okay? Say something.' And he never said anything and never moved," Sullivan said.

Sullivan said the victim had recently started working at the post office.

"He was just starting a new job at the post office. He was very excited about it. He literally died in his work clothes; he had his post office pants on. That is how we knew who he was," she said.

Sullivan said she called 911 while neighbors came outside to help as they waited for police and paramedics.

"My neighbor upstairs put on her gloves and checked his pulse and said he is still alive. Just tell them to come on. We kept telling the lady on the phone. He is still breathing, just get somebody here but the ambulance never showed up and the police came first," Sullivan said.

Asked how long it took for an ambulance to arrive, Sullivan said, "It took at least 10, 15 minutes for the police to get here. I told them then he is going to bleed out. That baby will be dead by the time they get here."

People who knew the victim said he was in his 20s and hardworking.

"The guy was a good guy; I know that much. I feel sorry for his family, and I pray for them, and I want to pray for the store owner," Vallejo resident Damon said.

Neighbors said the victim's mother ran outside and begged him to wake up.

"Screaming and howling, telling him to get up. He never moved. He never said anything to us," Sullivan said.

The identities of the two victims have not been released, and the motive for the shootings remains unknown. Police are investigating whether the two shootings are connected.
