Chick-fil-A is opening another Detroit location.
The Atlanta-based chain confirmed to the Free Press that a new location is coming to the 8 Mile and Woodward area.
“It’s our pleasure to confirm we will be opening a new Chick-fil-A restaurant, Chick-fil-A 8 Mile & Woodward (SE Corner of 8 Mile Road & Ralston St.)," a statement emailed to the Free Press says. "Construction is now underway, and we look forward to opening later this year, pending any delays. We’re excited to join the community and serve our Guests delicious food in an environment of genuine hospitality and care."
The new location will be near a Meijer store and the Jason Hargrove Transit Center.
Building permits obtained by the Free Press and issued June 29 show the cost of construction to be $1.2 million. A description of the building calls it a fast-food restaurant with a drive-through and space for outdoor dining.
Most Chick-fil-As are locally owned and operated, with each location creating 80 to 120 jobs.
In January, doors opened at Chick-fil-A’s first and eagerly awaited downtown Detroit location in the First National Building. Locations also opened this year in Ann Arbor, Lincoln Park, Royal Oak and in Detroit on Mack near the Grosse Pointe border.
In September 2024, Chick-fil-A announced it was expanding in Michigan by adding more than two dozen locations. There are now more than 30 restaurants in the state.
The chain, started in 1967 by S. Truett Cathy, is known for its fried or grilled chicken sandwiches, waffle fries and sauces. For 11 years straight years, it held the top position in the American Customer Satisfaction Index. This year, it, was unseated by Jersey Mike’s sandwich shop. Jersey Mike’s earned an 84 ranking, and Chick-fil-A dropped to No. 2 with an 83 score.
There are more than 3,000 Chick-fil-A locations across 48 states, Canada and Puerto Rico, according to chick-fil-a.com.
