DICK's House of Sport to open location at Partridge Creek

Michigan will be getting second location of a DICK'S House of Sport.

The experiential retail concept has committed to opening in The Mall at Partridge Creek in Clinton Township. The location will be within a 116,000-square-foot big box space that previously housed a Nordstrom store and that has sat vacant since 2019.

DICK'S House of Sport is an offshoot of DICK'S Sporting Goods that features various playing surfaces and areas for trying out merchandise, including a climbing wall, a running track, multisport batting cages and a golf simulator.

The retailer has yet to give a timeline for opening the new location, but Partridge Creek would be just its second in Michigan; the state's first DICK'S House of Sport is expected to open later this fall at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi.

“We tailor each DICK’S House of Sport location to the local market and have carefully designed each concept to be more than a retail store,” Brian Bacik, vice president of real estate development for the retailer, said in a statement. “House of Sport is a community destination that offers new opportunities for local programming and will bring metro Detroiters together through sport.”

The announcement is a big win for The Mall at Partridge Creek, which now has found occupants for its long-empty department store anchor buildings.

A Powerhouse Gym opened early this year inside a former Carson's store that closed in 2018. The two-story and 120,000-square-foot location is said to be the biggest Powerhouse Gym in the world.

Carmen Spinoso, CEO of Spinoso Real Estate Group, which operates the outdoor shopping mall, said the Powerhouse Gym's membership has exceeded expectations and brought additional foot traffic and business to Partridge Creek tenants.

He said they are incredibly excited about the DICK's House of Sport announcement, and believe that Partridge Creek's popular location and its ability to attract new stores and restaurants helped to convince the much-coveted retailer to come.

Although Partridge Creek did lose its Apple Store last year when the tech giant relocated the store to downtown Detroit, it has attracted a new Ann Taylor factory store, a Zumiez, the Lovesac furniture company, a HopCat restaurant, Andiamo Pasta + Chops and Kids Empire, among other newer tenants.

The mall has been in receivership and under Spinoso's management and leasing since 2021.

“Eventually the property will be transferred to a more permanent owner," Carmen Spinoso said. "We’ve been doing a lot of work to prepare for that day.”
